Sisterhood

I have discovered the cause of Mother's strange behavior: I have a sister.
I was attending a school field trip to the mausoleum today. When I returned home, I headed for the shower without though, covered in cobwebs as I was. No sooner had I toweled off than I heard Mother calling for me to come downstairs. In her arms she craddled a child no more than a few hours old. "Her name is Selene," Mother proclaimed, her voice almost a purr.
Before I get ahead of myself, let me explain something about Elvira Slayer. She never married, which left her free to explore the many wonders of the people of Bridgeport. She was not exclusive, either. I have seen many a woman come through our door, and Mother is the Master of Seduction. None can resist her charms. So on the subject of how Selene came to be, I haven't the slightest idea. She refuses to divulge who my father is, and to keep me from wondering over the men who climb up to her chambers, she often plans with excrusiatng detail that I see no more than a glimpse of them, and they have careful instructions to avoid me. I am also under orders not to allow strangers into the household, which isn't completely unreasonable, yet I suspect has more to do with my ignorance than my bodily harm.
There is one other thing that is becoming more apparent as Mother's master plan unfolds. We are more than human. That much is obvious simply by the fact that there are few other people in town who have the violent red eyes of Elvira, or my pure white pupils. Our skin has an unnatural glow. And our fridge is always stocked with nothing more than odd smelling juice boxes. I cannot say for certain what's going on, but I have my theories. For now, I know only that we are monsters in the eyes of the humans here.
And yet, Mother has seen fit to bring another of our kind into the world. Her skin is darker and eyes murky, so it's a safe bet that we don't share the same father. But why has she done such a thing? Have I failed her in some way? All that she once promised me, is it now to be given to Selene? Surely Mother cannot expect a mere babe to aid me in my journey forward. For companionship then? No, I think not.
Perhaps Mother has finally taken leave of all her senses. This could just as easily been an accident. My education has not neglected to tell me of the ways children come to be. The stork has delivered, and there's nothing more to be done. Selene will not stop me from my goal, and Bridgeport and it's inhabitants will know that Dario Slayer is not one to be trifled with. I will not be heed to the need of an infant or it's deranged mother.
And yet, she is my sister. If I can keep her away from mother's influence, it may be possible to teach her to be someone I might yet have a use for. She can be taught to be the face of the Slayer name, and I can sit back and rule from the shadows... Yes. Selene, with guidance, can be more than a girl to share in my bloodline. Her and I will one day see that the world bow before our whims. And who would say no to such an innocent face?
Until next time,
Dario
